The Rogosin Institute

Social Services

As part of the care as a dialysis patient at The Rogosin Institute, each patient will have a social worker who will meet with them on a regular basis.  The social worker at The Rogosin Institute will get to know the patient and will be there to provide support and assistance with many concerns related to the dialysis treatment.  Some of the issues the social worker can help with are:

Benefits/Financial Issues

When dealing with a serious health issue such as kidney disease, a patient may need help understanding different resources that may be available. It is important to know that most dialysis patients, regardless of income, qualify for Medicare.  The social worker can give the patient further information about this, as well as assistance in navigating different benefit options such as the Medicare program, the Social Security programs and the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Program.

It is important for all patients to keep certifications current for all benefits. The social worker can help guide each patient through the process and sometimes, confusing, program guidelines.

Emotional Support

Dealing with a serious health issue may bring many questions and concerns for patients and their loved ones.  The social worker at The Rogosin Institute will be available to help with the ongoing process of living with dialysis.  The social worker will be available to get to know the patient and to provide ongoing support and counseling as needed.  Additionally, the social worker can connect the patient with different organizations and resources in the community that may be very helpful to patients and their family members or caregivers.

For people diagnosed with end stage kidney disease, the sudden changes in lifestyle may be difficult.  The dialysis social worker can help in managing through this challenging adjustment period.
