Lipid Disorders – Adult

Treatment

Our adult program focuses on diagnosis and treatment of cholesterol and triglyceride disorders, as well as management of other risk factors. The goal of all our programs is to prevent heart disease and stroke or reverse existing arterial disease.

Optimal therapy for cholesterol related diseases is based on establishing a favorable ratio between LDL, which promotes cholesterol deposits and HDL, which promotes the removal of cholesterol. Individualized treatment at the CLCC is based on patient education and it may include diet and exercise modification, cholesterol lowering medication, and, when necessary, referral for balloon dilation, surgical therapy or LDL-apheresis.

Patients of the CLCC receive:

  • A comprehensive history and physical exam performed
by a physician or nurse practitioner
  • Lipid determinations (overall cholesterol, LDL, HDL, Lp(a)
    and other apolipoproteins)
  • Dietary analysis and individualized diet instruction by dietitians
specializing in lipid disorders, diabetes and weight control
  • Supervised cholesterol and triglyceride lowering medicines, if needed
