CLCC Research Lipid Laboratories - has two components:

Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Clinical Research Laboratory
This laboratory, located in The Rockefeller University, collaborates with pharmaceutical companies to develop assays that benefit patients with lipid disorders. The laboratory helped devise two automated Lp(a) tests that received FDA approval. The tests are available for use in the treatment of patients with lipid disorders. Research is ongoing to evaluate new lipid lowering medications and develop new assays.

Basic Research Lipid Laboratory:
This laboratory, also located in The Rockefeller University, focuses on identifying new drugs to lower LDL and new ways of raising HDL (the "good cholesterol"). Initial research linked the relationship of high HDL level with protection against endotoxemia, a condition caused by bacterial breakdown products in the blood that can lead to sepsis and septic shock and can be fatal. RI developed a synthetic HDL(r-HDL) and subsequently a related product, RI emulsion, to block the effects of endotoxin and thus prevent or treat sepsis and septic shock. Initial studies on the effects of small doses of endotoxin administered to healthy volunteers began June 1999 at The Rockefeller University Research Hospital. Phase I Clinical Trials on the Use of RI emulsion to block the effects of endotoxin began in September 1999.
