Valerie
Kidney Transplant
Valerie needed a transplant after she experienced kidney failure as a result of lupus. Her family volunteered to be tested, but none of them was a good match for organ donation. When a co-worker heard about Valerie's condition and need of a transplant, she volunteered and was evaluated at The Rogosin Institute. Valerie's co-worker was a perfect match. Valerie's transplant, which took place at New York-Presbyterian/Cornell in June 2007, was successful, and she and her donor continue to share a close bond.
Jeannette
Kidney Donor
Jeannette did not know much about organ donation until she heard that a
co-worker needed a kidney transplant. Believing she might be a good
donor, Jeannette volunteered to be evaluated at The Rogosin Institute.
She was found to be a perfect match for her co-worker, who she barely
knew. She did not hesitate to become a donor and she and Valerie, who
received her kidney, underwent transplant surgery in June 2007 at New
York-Presbyterian/Cornell. Jeannette is an enthusiastic advocate for
organ donors, believing she benefited as much from the process as
Valerie, who received her kidney.
