The Rogosin Institute

History & Overview

Dialysis is a method of removing toxic substances (impurities or wastes) from the blood when the kidneys are unable to do so. Dialysis is most frequently used for patients who have kidney failure, but may also be used to quickly remove drugs or poisons in acute situations. This technique can be life saving in people with acute or chronic kidney failure.

The Rogosin Institute

  • Performed the first dialysis in the New York City metropolitan area in 1956
  • Supervises over 40,000 dialyses per year at its three hemodialysis centers- in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.
  • Is the largest not-for-profit dialysis center in the U.S.
  • Offers patients all types of dialysis, including:
  • Conventional in-center hemodialysis
  • Conventional home hemodialysis
  • Home nocturnal hemodialysis
  • Chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis - CAPD and continuous cycler peritoneal dialysis –CCPD

The Rogosin Institute continually works to improve dialysis treatments and the environment in which they are provided; provide transplantation as an alternative; and conduct research with the aim of eventually managing kidney disease without the need for dialysis and transplantation.
